Introduction:

League competitions take place over many months, and individual fans usually see their teams's fortunes change a good deal during this period. Often there is elation, boring periods and and in other times disappointment, both of the bitter and resigned kind. In short, each league season and how a team performs is a story, sometimes happy and other times sad.

But how best to represent these stories? It's certainly hard to capture, but a line-race graph is a good place to start, as it visually shows how distant each team is from each other, better than the points total in the sual table represention of league standings.

Click on the links below to see the stories of some recent European league competitions. Note that playoffs are excluded because they are knockout post-competitions, so the league is not the complete story, unless your team does not reach the playoffs.
